Ode to the Water
concept, sculpture, sound: Alexandre Decoupigny
The sculpture renders homage to the elixir water using the climatic conditions of the environment. The collected water mirrors the expectation of the visitor towards the next drop..... (Dr.Gitta Heil, Curator)
Under the eastern Germany city of Gera lies a complex system of tunnels called the "Hoehler". They were started in the middle ages, when the city unquily gained their right to brew beer privately. Then these tunnels were used to cool and store beer.. In 1936 already the nazis send their inspectors to investigate the usage of these tunnels as Bunkers and expanded the system.. After having been left alone in the GDR, they are now used as a unique place for a biennale taking place up to 30m under the earth..
Ode to the water was commisioned as part of the Höhlerbiennale 2007, Gera (Germany): Art under the surface of a city.
